What is a Lactic Acid Skin Peel?

A chemical peel is a treatment which can improve and smooth the texture and therefore the appearance of the skin. Lactic Acid belongs to a group of chemicals called Alpha Hydroxy acids (AHAs) which can be found in various fruits and milk. If you are new to chemical skin peels lactic acid is a great place to start even if you have sensitive skin.

What can it be used for?

Lactic Acid can be used to treat the following skin conditions:

Acne Blackheads/Whiteheads Large pores Blemishes Fine lines & Wrinkles Light stretch marks Rosacea Keratosis Rough skin Uneven Skin Tone Dull Complexion Uneven pigmentation Dry Skin

What effect can it have?

As the active ingredient in our solution it safely removes the upper epidermis layer of the skin. The use of our Lactic Acid Skin Peel can help you achieve the following benefits:

The removal of dead skin cells through natural exfoliation
The reduced inflammation and redness of spots and pimples
The reduction of un-sightly scars and aging lines
Improved smoothness and texture of the skin
The prevention of future blackheads spots and acne
An overall improved and more healthy appearance

Which strength should I use?

Never used a chemical peel before? – Choose our 20% Lactic Acid Skin Peel

Newcomers to the use of chemical peels should choose our 20% lactic acid solution as a starting point. From here you can assess your own skins tolerance for lactic acid and increase the strength as required. Remember to always perform a patch test first (see ‘What precautions should I take’ below)

Experienced in the use of chemical peels? – Choose from our higher strengths

Experienced in the use of chemical peels? – Choose from our higher strengths

We stock a wide range of lactic acid skin peel strengths. 40%, 60% & 80% are all available for use by persons who have previously used chemical peels.

40% Lactic Acid Peel – For dry dehydrated skin, for moisturising and toning.

60% Lactic Acid Peel – For Acne, blackheads and whiteheads and wrinkle/fine line reduction.

80% Lactic Acid Peel – For improving the appearance of age spots and scars (Use with caution only after trying lesser strengths)

How do I use it?

Always perform a patch test first (see precautions section below)
Mix some bicarbonate of soda/baking soda (cheaply available from supermarkets) into a paste with some warm water. Prepare enough to cover the area to be treated in a thin layer. This will be used to neutralise the acid after application.
Do not apply the solution to broken, inflamed or damaged skin.
Wash the area of skin to be treated with clean water and then pat dry.
Apply the solution to the skin using an applicator brush, cotton pad or your finger avoiding the sensitive areas of the face such as on and around the lips and eyes.
Leave the solution on the skin according to the timings in our full usage instructions a link to which is included with the purchase of any of our products.
Wash the solution off with warm water and then apply the bicarbonate of soda/baking soda paste. Leave the paste on the skin for 1 minute to neutralise the acid and then wash it off with warm water.

Apply a moisturiser to prevent dryness.
Apply appropriate sun screen protection (cream/lotion) to protect newly exposed skin cells from increased photo-sensitivity. SPF15 or above is recommended.
The procedure can then be repeated weekly in conjunction with our full usage instructions, a link to which is included with the purchase of any of our products.

What precautions should I take?

Always perform a patch test before use by applying a small amount of the product to your wrist. Leave it for 2 minutes. Remove the product with plenty of clean warm water. If after 48 hours your skin experiences no adverse reaction then proceed with a full treatment.
Darker skin can be more sensitive and thus prone to scarring. It is recommended to start with a lower concentration first and then to move progressively up the strengths if you skin does not react adversely.
Keep the product away from children.

When should Glycolic Acid not be used?

When under 16 years of age
When pregnant or lactating
If you are using any prescription medications for any skin conditions
If you have diabetes mellitus or circulatory problems including Raynaud’s disease
If you are allergic to lactic acid
