What is stearin made of?
Stearin /ˈst??r?n/, or tristearin, or glyceryl tristearate is a triglyceride derived from three units of stearic acid. Most triglycerides are derived from at least two and more commonly three different fatty acids. Like other triglycerides, stearin can crystallise in three polymorphs.
How is palm stearin produced?
Palm stearin. Palm stearin is the solid fraction of palm oil that is produced by partial crystallization at controlled temperature. Like crude palm fruit oil, palm stearin contains carotenoids, but physically refined palm oils do not, as they are removed or destroyed in the refining process.

Benefits of use Stearic Acid Candles:

Easier mould release
Intense colour
Longer-burning candles
Less drips and smoking
Harder candles

Is Palm Oil dangerous to health?
Palm oil has a high saturated fat content, which can be harmful to cardiovascular health. However, one study found that, when consumed as part of a balanced diet, “Palm oil does not have incremental risk for cardiovascular disease.” Despite the benefits, other oils are recommended for use in cooking such as olive oil.

How is stearin used in the manufacture of soap?
It is used as a hardening agent in the manufacture of candles and soap. In the manufacture of soap, stearin is mixed with a sodium hydroxide solution in water. The following reaction gives glycerin and sodium stearate, the main ingredient in most soap:

Why is palm oil bad for you?
Damage to peatland, partly due to palm oil production, is claimed to contribute to environmental degradation, including four percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and eight percent of all global emissions caused annually by burning fossil fuels, due to the clearing of large areas of rainforest for palm oil
Is palm oil a vegetable oil?
Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from the mesocarp (reddish pulp) of the fruit of the oil palms, primarily the African oil palm Elaeis guineensis, and to a lesser extent from the American oil palm Elaeis oleifera and the maripa palm Attalea maripa.

Is palm oil liquid or solid?
Like coconut oil, palm oil is semi-solid at room temperature. However, its melting point is 95°F (35°C), which is considerably higher than 76°F (24°C) for coconut oil. This is due to the different fatty acid compositions of the two oils.
Is palm oil flammable?

FIREFIGHTING MEASURES Conditions of flammability Materials may pose fire hazard. Specific hazards arising from the Chemical Oil Risk of ignition. Rags and other materials containing this product may heat up and spontaneously ignite if exposed to air, even if laundered.

Is stearic acid made from palm oil?
Stearic acid is an emulsifier by itself, but can also be used with triethanolamine. Lush use a vegetable-based stearic acid, derived from palm oil. Because completely palm-free stearic acid is so difficult to find, we’ve worked with suppliers to produce a new version from other vegetable oils.

Where does the wax go when you burn a candle?
When you light a candle, the heat of the flame melts the wax near the wick. This liquid wax is then drawn up the wick by capillary action. The heat of the flame vaporizes the liquid wax (turns it into a hot gas), and starts to break down the hydrocarbons into molecules of hydrogen and carbon.
