Description
A must for all shampoo, shower gel and bath blends. Creates the initial flash foam and can reduce sensitivity of other surfactants on the skin
Cocomidopropyl betaine
The most important secondary surfactant used in households, Cocamidopropyl betaine offers good compatability with a wide range of cationic, anionic and non-ionic surfactants. Mild, Foam boosting and helping to provide an immediate flash foam, Cocamidopropyl betaine is an essential ingredient of most Shower Gels, Shampoos and Bath Foams.
Characteristics
The addition of Cocamidopropyl betaine to a foaming formulation helps to improve flash foam, foam stability and richness of your product as well as have the desirable effect of reducing the irritating nature of other surfactants.
Cocamidopropyl betaine combines with surfactants such as Sodium laureth sulfate to create good all round foaming products and reacts to help thicken the product without the use of other thickeners such as Sodium chloride (salt).

How to use
Cocamidopropyl can be used as both the primary and secondary surfactant. More commonly it is used as the secondary, accompanying Sodium laureth sulphate or Glucosides, but it can be used as the primary surfactant when looking for mild formulations.
Many baby formulations use Cocamidopropyl betaine as the primary surfactant, the gentle nature and fast foam being desirable in this kind of product.
Most ‘natural’ alternatives to foaming products i.e. those that use glucosides instead of conventional Sodium laureth sulfate, use Cocamidopropyl betaine as the secondary surfactant, helping to enhance and richen the foam from the glucosides.
