History of Pineapple

The pineapple fruit, botanically a berry, is a natural part of any tropical scene. The term “pineapple” was actually originally used in 1398 to refer to the cones of conifer trees, later changed to “pinecones” in 1694. When European travellers first came across the golden tropical fruits of the Ananas comosus plant, they quickly adopted the name “pineapple” for them, thanks to their resemblance to pinecones, and the name has stuck ever since!
